Cesar's Guarin Global Run

The Philippine Community Council of NSW (PCC NSW) spearheaded the Filipino Australian community in the State in welcoming the Filipino global marathon runner Cesar Guarin. The event took place at  Sydney Olympic Park, Homebush, NSW on Saturday afternoon on the 12th of November 2011.

The one and a half (1½) hours simple but jubilant occasion was attended by more than 50 welcomers including; the PCC NSW Board; Filipino community leaders; representatives of affiliate and non-affiliate clubs; UBI World TV-GMA who covered the event; and special guests, the Honourable Consul General Anne Louis of the Philippine Consulate General Sydney, who gave an Inspirational Message; and Miss Philippines Australia 2011, Stephanie Ross, who, on behalf of the welcome party paid tribute to Cesar Guarin by presenting him with a garland.

Cesar Guarin is presently jogging around Australia for the 5th stage of his Global Run which is set to cover 26 countries, a total of 23,000 kilometres global run in 447 days. For his Australia lap he is currently running the route from Melbourne to Brisbane.

When he entered Sydney on the 6th day of his arduous run from Melbourne, Cesar Guarin was met and escorted by PCC NSW affiliate club, the Maharlika Riders who were in motorbikes. The convoy proceeded to the Global Run welcome venue where the enthusiastic community was waiting. The highly excited welcome party with flaglets, streamers and banners cheered when Cesar Guarin arrived at 4:05pm with the Maharlika Riders, and his Global Run – Australia escort van.

To provide some assistance to Cesar Guarin’s Global Run – Australia leg, an on-the-spot voluntary donations was initiated by PCC NSW’s Treasurer Millie Banan raising some cash of over $800 from individuals and organizations including; Zignal Travel; Ilocano Association of Australia; Philippine Language & Cultural Association of Australia; Filipino Australian Movement for Empowerment; and Bicol Inc. A brand new tent was donated by Kharen Banan (PCC Youth Committee Member). Others contributed tinned goods, bottled waters and noodle soup packets to the gratefulness of the global marathon runner.

PCC NSW expresses appreciation for the cooperation and generosity of affiliate and non-affiliate organizations, community leaders and all individuals that despite the short notice they turned up at the Global Run welcome, to extend support to Cesar Guarin and his Global Run – Australia.

The mission of Cesar Guarin’s Global Run is to give inspiration and hope to the impoverished children in the Philippines, and to pay tribute to the contributions and sacrifices of Filipino overseas workers and migrants around the world.
